This is the second year that I have had the privilege of spending a week with my coach Trista Francis at a winter camp. After a trying autumn I was beyond ready for this week. For me it ended up being more of a restart to training than an actually intensive high volume week. The summer conditions on the island of Cozumel brought by sprits back to life and allowed me to get the gears going again with swim, bike and run. Our days were filled with swimming in the ocean, at the community pool, cycling around the island bike paths and running through the streets and around the city track. Triathlon is beginning to have a unique effect on the local population. The island is becoming somewhat of a training hub for multisport. This international presence of professional athletes training paired with the Ironman and ITU events on Cozumel is starting to inspire the population to get active. It is so wonderful to see all shapes, ages and sizes out training on the community track. My time in Mexico this January left me recharged an refocused. I am not sure what will happen when I toe the line at Cleremont on March 1st, but I am ready to give it my all find out.
